Replacing your thermostat on your SAAB is an inexpensive way to bring you some peace of mind. When thermostats fail, they either stay stuck open (overcool) or stay stuck closed (overheat). On our SAABs, they commonly fail in the open position.
SAAB made different versions of coolant thermostats for different reasons. This is the 89°C (192°F) version, SAAB lists it for "normal driving" conditions, meaning whether you drive your car hard or normally and that outside temperature is anything short of tropical, this is the right one for the job. It's important to use a genuine SAAB thermostat as they have 3 positions, unlike some aftermarket ones that will only have 2. It's wise to spend a bit more and get the factory part!
If you lost the packaging for your OEM SAAB thermostat and don't know what temperature rating it is, you can check at the bottom end of the spring in the hole, the temperature rating will be stamped there.
