An oil filter is common replacement item for any car owner and should be replaced at regular intervals along with the engine oil and drain plug gasket. An oil filter helps keep contaminants out of the oil and allows oil to flow freely during starts in cold winter weather when the oil is more viscous.

Using a high quality oil filter during your service is crucial, an oil filter needs to meet the car manufacturers specifications to ensure proper flow and lubrication in all conditions and engine loads. This Mahle unit is the original equipment oil filter that is also used by Volvo, it has been tested to strict standards to ensure it will provide exact fit, quality and protection for your engine. This filter also has the correct foam end caps that create a form fitted seal when pressed into the filter housing end and the oil pan end.
This filter is a cartridge style and it requires a special tool to remove the housing. What you need is a 86mm 14 flute oil filter housing tool for Volvo models with this engine oil filter. Once the housing is removed, remove the old filter and press fit the new one in the housing, replace the o-ring in the correct groove and apply a thin coat of new motor oil or silicone grease and thread the plastic housing by hand. When it's time to tighten it, take care to not over tighten to prevent cracking the housing.
Fastening torque of the housing is 18.5 ft-lbs.
