When doing a water pump on your 5 cylinder Volvo, you may get recommended to replace the water pump while you are there. Truth is, Volvo only recommends replacing the water pump every second timing belt job. These units are extremely tough and last an extremely long time. All this is taking into consideration that you are using a Genuine Volvo water pump or the original equipment Aisin unit as seen here.
It is crucial that you get either an OEM pump or this OE Aisin pump, if a lesser part is used, this can result in catastrophic engine damage due to premature water pump failure.
This pump comes with the proper green gasket in the box. It is unadvisable to use the black gaskets as these will more likely than not stick to the block making it hard to remove next time the water pump is out.
