Engine seals, gaskets and o-rings have a tendency to leak on older cars because of years of heat cycles and being exposed to fluids in the engine. These parts lose their elasticity or sealing capabilities and eventually they will start to sweat fluid out.

Additional Part Details:
This o-ring seals the hoses that connect to the inlet and outlet ports of the heater core. These can leak slowly and cause your heating to not be as efficient as it could be. This particular one fits P2 models, be careful as the P80 ones are very similar and just slightly smaller, they don't interchange.
